In May 2022 he was diagnosed with a pneumothorax [collapsed lung]. He required surgery and missed the 2021 South East Asian Games [which took place in May 2022] in Hanoi, Vietnam, but recovered in time to compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
