He took up cross-country running in 2015 while serving for the Indian Army, and moved on to distance running a year later. In 2017 he began practising steeplechase after Army coach Amrish Kumar spotted Sable trying to clear the hurdles. (olympicchannel, 16 Apr 2020; hindustantimes, 14 Dec 2019)

He used to run six kilometres a day to get to school as a child. His primary school teacher Babasaheb Taware noticed Sable's talent and took him to a school athletic meet for a 1000m race, where Sable came first. ARMY SERVICE
At age 18 he joined the Indian Army after leaving school. He has spoken about his experience of being posted at the Siachen Glacier in the Himalayas, where he was stationed for two years, during extreme weather. "The first day in Siachen was the worst. There was snow all around me. I had not seen snow before that, and there was nothing to do apart from your duty. There was no network in the area and I was the junior.
