She began athletics at age 10. "I was a tomboy, I ran around on the street and got dirty knees but was not particularly interested in sports. At age seven my mother tried to send me to a piano class, but I had trouble with hearing, then at age eight I went to gymnastics so I had something to be passionate about, but they said it was too late. Every attempt to attach me somewhere was useless, because all I loved was to return from school and rush about like a mad woman on the street." (uzathletics.uz, 06 Jul 2021)

Her mother, who had competed in athletics, enrolled her in the sport. "My mum's old coach rode by on a bicycle and got into a conversation. I was age nine, and he said to bring me along when I turned 10.
