REPRESENTING BAHRAIN
He was born in Kano, Nigeria, and chose to compete for Bahrain at age 16 after being approached by Bahrain officials. He relocated to Bahrain and joined the Bahrain Defence Force as a paid athlete. He first lived with his coach before moving into an athletes' complex in Riffa. "Before I lived there, I used to think Bahrain was somewhere in Russia [Russian Federation]. I missed my mum. I cried every day but I got used to it after a year. My coach used to tell me, 'Don't worry, I'm your father', and he bought me things."
