She won gold in the lightweight category at the 2017 World Youth Championships in Guwahati, India, despite suffering from a fractured left shinbone. She discovered the injury after she returned to the Republic of Korea, and was sidelined for about four months. (post, 26 Apr 2018)

She competed in athletics when she was younger as her parents loved sport, particularly the marathon. She decided to switch sports after watching a boxing tournament. "I asked my mother if we could watch the competition together. At that time she thought that I would feel scared to get involved in the sport, but I was fascinated by female boxers.
