Team Overview
General
Kazakhstan are making their eighth consecutive Asian Games appearance since first taking part in the 1994 tournament, where they finished fourth out of four teams. They were ranked fifth in 1998 before claiming silver in 2002 and again in 2006. At Doha 2006 they lost the final to the Republic of Korea in the first Asian Games women's tournament to feature knockout stages.
Kazakhstan were contenders for a medal at the 2010 Games but missed out to the Korean team again, losing 38-26 in the bronze medal match in Guangzhou. Following another defeat to the Koreans in the semifinals of the 2014 Games in Incheon, the Kazakhstanis pipped the People's Republic of China to bronze, 27-26. In 2018 they finished fourth in Group A of the preliminary round and did not qualify for the semifinals.
The Kazakhstan team have claimed two titles at the Asian championship, first in 2002 and again in 2010, with both victories coming when they hosted the tournament. Their only other podium finish came in 2021 in Amman, where they beat the Islamic Republic of Iran in the bronze medal match.
On the world stage, Kazakhstan finished 10th out of 12 teams in their sole Olympic campaign in 2008. They have also made six world championship appearances this century, with a best finish of 18th in 2007. They were ranked 24th at the 2021 World Championship in Spain.
