SWIMMING DEVELOPMENT
In 2019 he began training at an International Swimming Federation [FINA] training centre in Thailand due to a lack of suitable facilities in Bhutan. He says the country is early in its development in swimming. "Training in another country is tough, but beneficial, I have progressed in a short span of time which I think would not have been possible if I was trained in Bhutan because of the lack of an Olympic-size pool. We are completely new to this sport. Even our officials are new to the sport. But we are still learning the basics of swimming and as time passes by, we hope we will reach the level of other sports as well." He became the first swimmer to represent Bhutan at the Olympic Games when he competed in the men's 100m freestyle at the 2020 Games in Tokyo. (SportsDeskOnline, 31 Jul 2021)
