His uncle Qamar Zaman competed in squash at six editions of the world championships between 1976 and 1984, winning four silver and two bronze medals in singles. He also won the singles competition at the 1975 British Open Championships in London, England. His uncle Muhammad Asif Zaman and cousin Mansoor Zaman have both played squash at international level, while Muhammad Asif has also served as director general of the Pakistan Sports Board.
